The problem ColorVu actually solves
Most security incidents happen at night, which is exactly when standard cameras perform worst. Traditional IR (infrared) night vision gives you a usable image, but it’s black and white, and black and white footage is genuinely harder to work with. You can’t describe a car by colour, you can’t pick out details that only stand out in colour, and footage that’s technically “visible” isn’t always footage that’s actually useful.
ColorVu solves this by keeping full colour recording overnight instead of switching to greyscale IR. It does this through a larger aperture lens and a built in supplemental light, capturing more usable light in real time rather than trying to brighten an image after the fact.
What this looks like in practice
On a ColorVu install, footage taken at night looks close to daytime quality. You can make out clothing colour, vehicle colour, and finer detail that a standard IR camera would just show as a grey silhouette. For a customer trying to describe what actually happened, or provide something useful to police, that difference matters far more than most people expect until they’ve seen it side by side with a traditional camera.
